FIFA World Cup bid | Indonesia wants to co-host 2034 edition with Australia, Malaysia, Singapore

Indonesia is in discussions with Australia a few potential joint bid to host the 2034 World Cup together with Malaysia and Singapore, the president of the nation’s soccer federation (PSSI) mentioned on Wednesday.

World soccer’s governing physique FIFA invited member associations from Asia and Oceania to bid for the rights to the 2034 version final week.

“We’re discussing (a bid) with Australia,” PSSI President Erick Thohir was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald.

“After I visited Malaysia and Singapore each nations expressed curiosity to affix Indonesia and Australia.”

When requested for touch upon a potential joint bid, Soccer Australia referred Reuters to an announcement final week that mentioned it was “exploring the potential of bidding for the 2029 FIFA Membership World Cup and/or the FIFA World Cup 2034”.

The PSSI has not responded to a Reuters request for remark.

After asserting Spain, Morocco and Portugal would host the 2030 World Cup, with Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina staging the opening video games, FIFA invited Asia and Oceania to bid for 2034.

Saudi Arabia rapidly introduced its intention to bid for the internet hosting rights and FIFA have set a deadline of Oct. 31 for different events to make their intentions identified.

With Qatar having hosted the 2022 version, Thohir mentioned it may be too quickly for the World Cup to return to the Center East.

“We’re fairly robust,” he mentioned. “I believe FIFA will see that the Center East space has been the host with Qatar final 12 months. Japan and Korea have been host too. I’m certain FIFA will attempt different nations.

“The potential to win if we be part of with Australia, Malaysia and Singapore is larger too.”
