SHIMLA: Inspection and security audit of 12 under-construction tunnels in Himachal Pradesh might be carried out by a 3rd social gathering and vertical drilling machines might be stationed close to tunnels for use in case an Uttarakhand-like scenario arises, in line with an NHAIofficial. “Now we have given suggestion to place vertical pipes at tunnel development areas for supplying oxygen and meals in case an identical tragedy strikes,” he stated.
The NHAI officers visited some under-construction tunnels and interacted with employees, directed contractors to have an inventory of equipment obtainable in close by areas in order that in case of an emergency, these could be made obtainable on the website with out shedding time.
Warning that no laxity in security might be tolerated, he requested mission administrators to conduct mock drills and verify the preparedness of evacuation plans.
In 2015, two of three labourers have been trapped contained in the under-construction tunnel (No. 4) of Kiratpur-Nerchowk four-lane mission in Himachal’s Bilaspur after a portion of the tunnel collapsed on September 12. They have been rescued after 9 days.
A tunnel about 1.2-metre diameter was dug vertically to succeed in the trapped individuals and rescue them.
