Pandit Bhavani Shankar who is called the Pakhawaj maestro handed away on December 30, 2023, on Saturday. His household has confirmed the information and stated that his ‘rasam kriya’ will happen on December 31, from 12pm onwards in Borivali. Shankar had a chest ache within the afternoon and sadly he handed away on the spot and the household could not even rush him to the hospital.

Vocalist Soma Ghosh pays a tribute to Bhawani.She advised ETimes, “Bhavani Shankar ji is synonymous with the “Pakhawaj”, like Ust Bismillah Khan was with the”Shehnai”. I had the great fortune of working with him after we labored on the one & solely bhajan album “Aradhana”, composed by the Shehnai Legend, Bharat Ratna Ust Bismillah Khan. Lately, final month, I met Bhawani ji once more and thereafter he referred to as me plenty of instances, saying that we have now to work once more on a venture! I suppose this one final want will stay unfulfilled. The world will miss this heat hearted maestro – Relaxation in peace pricey Bhawani Shankar ji!!”
Shankar was born right into a musical household, starting his research of pakhawaj and tabla on the age of eight. He had performed with many Indian artists together with bansuri participant Hariprasad Chaurasia, santoor participant Shiv Kumar Sharma and tabla gamers Zakir Hussain and Anindo Chatterjee. Bhawani’s father Babulalji was a famend Kathak performer and that is why he bought launched to ‘pakhawaj’ so early on on the age of 8.
