Maldives ex-president Nasheed condemns official’s ‘appalling’ language for PM Modi after his Lakshadweep go to

Former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed on Sunday condemned the nation’s minister’s derogatory remarks towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the row that erupted after Maldives ministers mocked PM Modi’s Lakshadweep go to. He mentioned the language utilized by the minister Mariyam Shiuna was “appalling” and mentioned India is a “key ally” for the safety and prosperity of the island nation.

“What appalling language by Maldives Authorities official Mariyam Shiuna in direction of the chief of a key ally, that’s instrumental for the Maldives’ safety and prosperity. The Mohamed Muizzu authorities should distance itself from these feedback and provides clear assurance to India they don’t replicate authorities coverage (sic),” he wrote on X (previously Twitter).

Mariyam Shiuna, Deputy Minister of Youth Empowerment within the Maldives, had known as Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “clown” and “puppet” in now-deleted posts on X. The tweets had been taken down after backlash on the micro-blogging web site.

Other than Shiuna, different Maldives officers, together with one other minister, Zahid Rameez, mocked Prime Minister Modi’s go to to Lakshadweep after the images gained vast consideration on social media, with many evaluating it to the Maldives.

Sharing a tweet which claimed that PM Modi’s transfer is a “large setback” for the Maldives and “will enhance” tourism in Lakshadweep, the minister Zahid Rameez mentioned, “The transfer is nice. Nevertheless, the thought of competing with us is delusional. How can they supply the service we provide? How can they be so clear? The everlasting odor within the rooms would be the largest downfall”.

These remarks invited sharp criticism towards the Maldives officers, with a number of folks calling to “boycott the Maldives”.
