Indian Railways awards huge metal tenders! Metal Authority of India Restricted (SAIL), Tata Metal, Jindal Stainless Restricted (JSL), ArcelorMittal Nippon Metal (AM/NS) and Jindal Metal and Energy Restricted (JSPL) have secured metal provide contracts valued at Rs 1,586.39 crore from the Indian Railways.
Officers accustomed to the matter advised ET that the bids have been invited for procuring Gentle/Corten Metal Sheets/Plates/Coils in July 2023, with the ultimate awards being confirmed earlier this month.
A separate tender was issued in February 2024 for the acquisition of stainless-steel sheets and plates, which was additionally awarded on the similar time, the report stated.

Huge Metal Procurement Orders

SAIL emerged as the highest bidder, securing a good portion of each tenders. The corporate will provide 1.05 lakh metric tonnes of metal valued at Rs 671.27 crore and 16,356 MT of stainless-steel valued at Rs 217.90 crore. Tata Metal follows intently with a contract to provide 52,753 MT of metal for Rs 333.48 crore.
This metal can be used within the fabrication of railway wagons, coaches, and bridges. According to its elevated manufacturing targets, Indian Railways plans to supply 1,500 locomotives in fiscal 2025, a 27% rise from earlier targets. The nationwide transporter goals to take care of this manufacturing degree till FY27.
