Throughout his time in jail Gambaryan has developed malaria, pneumonia and tonsillitis and suffers from problems tied to a herniated disc in his again, which left him in want of a wheelchair – although in a video from his final courtroom look, Gambaryan didn’t have a wheelchair, and as an alternative needed to battle on a single crutch.
