Pro-Liberation writers’ group attacked in Dhaka

DHAKA: A mob attacked members of Artistic Writers Affiliation –– seen as a platform of pro-Liberation Conflict writers –– once they tried to carry a rally in Dhaka Saturday to protest the cancellation of March 7 and Aug 15 as “nationwide days”.
The mob of round 100 reportedly assaulted a number of protesters with sticks and chased them from the spot. A video of the incident went viral, during which the attackers might be heard saying: “Get them! Catch the Awami League members, all of them are working away.”
The reference was to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League.
A minimum of two dozen members of the affiliation had gathered to protest the current cancellations by the interim govt.
The mob stormed in simply when the affiliation members had been unveiling their banners.In a gathering with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Saturday, Liberal Democratic Get together demanded a ban on Awami League, saying it had no rights to hold out politics in Bangladesh.
