China introduced Saturday that it’ll take “countermeasures” in response to the United States approving a $2 billion arms sale to Taiwan. Beijing expressed robust opposition to this sale, which incorporates the supply of a sophisticated air protection missile system to the island.
On Friday, the Pentagon confirmed the US had accredited the potential arms sale to Taiwan. Regardless of the absence of formal diplomatic ties, the US is legally dedicated to offering Taiwan with defensive help, a stance that incessantly angers China.
In a press release issued late Saturday, China’s international ministry condemned the US determination and urged it to “instantly cease arming Taiwan and halt actions that undermine peace and stability within the Taiwan Strait.” It added, “China will take resolute countermeasures and all vital measures to firmly defend nationwide sovereignty, safety, and territorial integrity.”
