'Toothless' environment laws: Supreme Court slams Centre over stubble burning

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Courtroom on Wednesday pulled up the central authorities for making ‘toothless’ setting legal guidelines, says Fee of Air High quality Administration (CAQM) Act provision on penalty for stubble burning not applied.
The SC mentioned that CAQM Act was enacted with out creating required equipment for implementing regulation to curb air air pollution. The Centre assured the SC that regulation on penalty beneath CAQM Act for stubble burning will likely be issued in 10 days.
CAQM, in the meantime, advised the Supreme Courtroom that there was non-compliance of its order by Punjab and Haryana to cease stubble burning and it issued notices to varied involved officers on why penal motion shouldn’t be taken towards them.
The apex courtroom expressed robust disapproval in the direction of the Punjab and Haryana governments for not taking satisfactory motion towards people concerned in stubble burning. The courtroom has highlighted that, regardless of legal guidelines being in place, no important prosecutions have occurred.
Addressing the chief secretary of Punjab, the Supreme Courtroom famous that out of 1080 registered FIRs, fines have solely been collected solely from 473 offenders. “You might be sparing 600 or extra individuals.
