EC officials, cops intercept gold jewellery worth Rs 138 crore

PUNE: Over 437kg of gold jewelry price round Rs 138 crore was intercepted in Pune Friday morning whereas it was being carried by a cargo providers agency’s van. A static surveillance workforce comprising Election Fee of India (ECI) representatives and Pune police intercepted the jewelry.
Pune collector and district election officer Suhas Diwase mentioned, “It was an interception and never a seizure. Our static surveillance workforce claims it was a logistics car of an organization that repeatedly transports jewelry and that they’ve the papers. The revenue tax division is verifying the paperwork.”
The jewelry can be launched if the paperwork are discovered legitimate, he mentioned. “If they don’t have the papers, it will be seized. Something greater than Rs 10 lakh or 1 kg of gold needs to be handed over to the revenue tax division, he mentioned. “We’re holding strict watch on any sort of unlawful ferrying of products throughout election interval. ECI has directed all election officers to maintain an in depth watch on any sort of transport of valuable metals, medication, money and liquor throughout the election interval,” Diwase added.
Saurabh Gadgil, chairman of Pune-based PN Gadgil Jewellers, instructed TOI, “There was a misunderstanding. Each merchandise was absolutely documented with payments and emails. There’s nothing unlawful right here.”
