Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun condemned on Saturday (February 15, 2025) an assault on a United Nations Interim Drive in Lebanon (UNIFIL) convoy in Beirut, saying safety forces is not going to tolerate anybody who tries to destabilise the nation, in line with a press release by the President’s workplace.

The outgoing Deputy Drive Commander of the UNIFIL was injured on Friday (February 14, 2025) when a convoy taking peacekeepers to Beirut airport was “violently attacked”, UNIFIL  mentioned in a press release.

“We’re shocked by this outrageous assault on peacekeepers who’ve been serving to revive safety and stability to south Lebanon throughout a troublesome time,” it mentioned.

The Lebanese military intervened to disperse the protesters. The Military mentioned in a press release that appearing commander Maj. Gen. Hassan Odeh had contacted UNIFIL and promised to “work to arrest the residents who attacked its members and produce them to justice.”

Demonstrators have been blocking the highway to the airport and different roads within the capital to protest a call by Lebanese authorities to revoke permission for a passenger aircraft from Iran to fly to Beirut on Thursday, leaving dozens of Lebanese passengers stranded.
