'Not trying to compete with Rishabh Pant': KL Rahul breaks silence on India's selection dilemma

NEW DELHI: Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul offered insights into the group’s mindset and strategy forward of their remaining group stage match in opposition to New Zealand within the Champions Trophy.
Despite securing a semifinal spot with victories over Bangladesh and Pakistan, Rahul emphasised that the group is targeted on the current and never dwelling on previous successes or failures.
Rahul acknowledged that the group has realized from their disappointing efficiency within the 2021 T20 World Cup, the place they failed to qualify for the semifinals.

“Those are things that did affect us back then. And it wasn’t a pleasant time for us players to not be in the semifinals (in 2021) or do well in the competitions. I think we’ve learned from that. In the last two or three ICC events, we’ve done really well, we’ve performed really well,” Rahul stated throughout a media interplay.

When asked about the competition with Rishabh Pant for the wicketkeeper-batter role, Rahul stated that he is not trying to compete with Pant or play like him. Instead, he focuses on doing what he does best and sticking to his game.

“There’s all the time the temptation for the group, captain or the coach to take him. I’m not trying to compete with Rishabh. I’m not trying to play like him. I try to do what I do finest and try to stick to my sport,” Rahul said.
Rahul also addressed the criticism surrounding his strike rate, stating that he is accustomed to it and tries to evaluate whether the criticism is valid.
“I’m fairly used to seeing it and listening to it and studying about it. Sometimes I simply sit again and see whether or not the criticism is legitimate… That’s not one thing that I attempt to take into consideration once I go right into a sport that I would like to up my strike charge,” he added. “I attempt to see what one of the best factor is for the group and for me to do in that situation and I attempt to try this.
