NEW DELHI: The Calcutta High Court on Saturday ordered the speedy deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, following lethal violence allegedly linked to protests in opposition to the Waqf (Amendment) Act. At least three individuals have died and over 100 have been arrested within the escalating clashes which have rocked the area.
“The court cannot keep its eyes closed when such situations come up,” a division bench led by Justice Soumen Sen noticed, emphasizing the constitutional duty to make sure peace and safety for all residents.
