Benchmark BSE Sensex soared by 1,200 factors whereas NSE Nifty closed above the 25,000 mark for the primary time in seven months on Thursday (May 15, 2025) following across-the-board shopping for by traders and recent international fund inflows into shares.
Rising for the second day, the 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 1,200.18 factors or 1.48% to settle at a seven-month excessive of 82,530.74 with 29 of constituents ending larger.
The index moved in a spread within the first half however picked up momentum within the afternoon session following sharp good points in banking, auto, IT and oil & fuel shares. Sensex rallied 1,387.58 factors or 1.70% to hit a day’s excessive of 82,718.14 within the second half of the session.
The NSE Nifty surged 395.20 factors or 1.60% to settle at a seven-month excessive of 25,062.10. The 50-issue index had closed above 25,000 on October 15, 2024, beforehand.
Among Sensex shares, Tata Motors was the largest gainer climbing by over 4%. HCL Tech, Adani Ports, Eternal, Maruti, Reliance Industries and Asian Paints had been among the many gainers. HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel and Infosys added to the rally.
IndusInd Bank emerged as the one laggard.
Broader markets additionally closed larger with the BSE smallcap gauge climbing 0.94% and midcap index by 0.67%.
All sectoral indices ended larger, with realty surging 1.87%, auto (1.86%), providers (1.85%), industrials (1.62%), metallic (1.60%), shopper discretionary (1.57%) and commodities (1.51%).
In Asian markets, South Korea’s Kospi, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index, Shanghai’s SSE Composite index and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng settled decrease. Markets in Europe had been buying and selling on a blended word.
U.S. markets ended on a blended word on Wednesday.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude dropped 3.65% to $63.68 a barrel.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) purchased equities price ₹931.80 crore on Wednesday, in keeping with trade knowledge.
On Wednesday, the BSE Sensex climbed 182.34 factors or 0.22% to settle at 81,330.56. The Nifty rose by 88.55 factors or 0.36% to 24,666.90.
