NEW DELHI: A 27-member Indian wushu contingent is stranded in Shanghai following the landfall of Typhoon Co-May, which led to the cancellation of tons of of flights and disrupted street and rail connectivity in China.The junior wushu team has been accommodated in a resort in Shanghai amid fears of coastal surges because the tropical storm swept by way of a number of jap Chinese cities. According to a team official, the robust 8.8-magnitude earthquake off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula triggered cyclone alerts alongside components of China’s coast.The Indian team was in China to compete in the twelfth Asian Junior Wushu Championships, held from July 23 to 30 in Jiangyin’s Wuxi City, Jiangsu province. India secured a complete of 9 medals in the match, together with one gold, 5 silver, and three bronze.The team travelled to Shanghai from Jiangyin by street and was scheduled to depart town on Wednesday for a connecting flight in Hong Kong. However, upon their arrival in Shanghai, they have been knowledgeable that the flight had been cancelled resulting from Typhoon Co-May.“In Shanghai, it was scary because of the landfall. Speed limits were put up on roads and people were told by the authorities to stay indoors. We spent 4-5 hours at the Shanghai airport before we were told that our flight has been cancelled, along with several others,” a team official advised TOI over the cellphone from Shanghai.The official mentioned the team is awaiting affirmation from the airline concerning their rescheduled flight again residence.Indian medallists: Gold: Roshan; Silver: Aisha, Ravichandra, Yaichenba Nanquan, Devikarani Taichi, Devikarani Taichijian; Bronze: Abhijit, Bipul and Sweta.
