US President Donald Trump on Tuesday stated he seems to be forward to assembly his “very good friend” Prime Minister Modi within the coming weeks and confirmed that his administration will proceed negotiations with India to resolve trade obstacles between the 2 nations.Sharing a put up on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “I am pleased to announce that India, and the United States of America, are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations. I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the upcoming weeks.”“I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our Great Countries!” he added.The remarks come after Trump had earlier softened his tone on India-US relations, calling the ties “very special,” affirming his friendship with PM Modi on Friday.Earlier, talking on the White House Trump had stated that, “I always will. I’ll always be friends with (PM) Modi. He’s a great Prime Minister. I’ll always be friends, but I just don’t like what he is doing at this particular moment.”“But India and the United States have a very special relationship. There is nothing to worry about. We just have moments on occasion,” he added.Following Trump’s assertion, PM Modi responded warmly on Saturday, saying he “deeply appreciates and fully reciprocates President Trump’s sentiments and positive assessment of our ties.”The remarks come after Trump had earlier softened his tone on India-US relations, calling the ties “very special,” affirming his friendship with PM Modi on Friday.However, Trump’s Trade adviser Peter Navarro on Monday renewed his assault on India and warned that it “won’t end well” if New Delhi would not “come around” in some unspecified time in the future in trade negotiations with the United States.In his interview with ‘Real America Voice’, Navarro reiterated that India is “Maharaja” of tariffs.”But it’s absolutely true. They have the highest tariffs in any major country in the world against the United States. We got to deal with that,” Navarro stated.“I think India must come around at some point. And if it doesn’t, it’s lying down with Russia and China, and that won’t end well for India,” he added.Navarro has repeatedly attacked India previously few weeks for “profiteering” from Russian crude by reselling its refined kind within the worldwide market.The shift in Trump’s tone comes after his administration’s imposed 25% tariffs on Indian items, plus an extra 25% on India’s Russian oil imports, bringing whole duties to 50%.
