Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (September 1, 2025) expressed deep anguish on the lack of lives due to an earthquake in Afghanistan, and mentioned India stands ready to provide all doable humanitarian aid and aid to those affected.

An earthquake in Afghanistan’s east has killed at the very least 800 individuals, injured 2,500 and destroyed quite a few villages, a spokesperson for the Taliban authorities mentioned. The 6.0 magnitude quake late Sunday (August 31, 2025) hit a sequence of cities within the province of Kunar, close to the town of Jalalabad in neighbouring Nangahar province.

Mr. Modi mentioned on X, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the earthquake in Afghanistan. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families in this difficult hour, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured. India stands ready to provide all possible humanitarian aid and relief to those affected.”
