Assam makes Assamese must in all official work

GUWAHATI: Assam govt made Tuesday using Assamese obligatory in all official communication alongside English, whereas Bengali and Bodo shall be used in Barak Valley and the Bodo Autonomous Region, respectively.
The directive comes as a part of the implementation of Clause VI of the 1985 Assam Accord, aimed toward safeguarding the cultural, social, and linguistic id of the Assamese individuals. The order is amongst 52 suggestions submitted by retired Justice Biplab Kumar Sharma fee.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma introduced the transfer on X, saying the order took impact Tuesday because the state marked the Assamese New Year and celebrated Rongali Bihu.
Under the governor’s notification issued by way of the Assam Official Language Act of 1960, all authorities notifications, workplace memos, acts, guidelines, rules, scheme pointers, and switch and posting orders shall be printed in each Assamese and English. Bengali and Bodo shall be used equally in their respective areas, together with English.
All central govt paperwork – together with acts, guidelines, orders, and notifications – shall be translated into Assamese, or into Bengali and Bodo wherever relevant, inside 30 days of being acquired by the state division.
