Assam state board cancels all Class 11 exams after paper leak

The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) canceled the continued Higher Secondary (HS) First Year examination, 2025 which have been initially scheduled from March 24 to March 29. The motion was taken attributable to studies of query paper leak and breach of protocol.

The Higher Secondary first yr or Class 11 examinations started on March 6 and have been scheduled to proceed until March 29.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu mentioned mentioned all examinations of Class 11 of the Assam state board from March 24 to 29, comprising 36 topics, have been cancelled.

The official order shared by information company ANI acknowledged, “…The further course of action will be intimated to all concerned, in accordance with the decision to be taken in the Board meeting to be held on 24/03/2025.”

Paper leak

Earlier, the Higher Secondary first yr Mathematics paper, scheduled on March 21, of the ASSEB was leaked. It compelled the authorities to cancel the examinations and lodge a police criticism, information company PTI reported.

“Due to reports of question paper leak and breach of protocol, the remaining subjects of HS First Year Examination 2025 (scheduled from March 24-29) stand cancelled,” Education Minister Ranoj Pegu mentioned in a put up on X.

Action towards college

In one other put up, the minister mentioned the Mathematics paper was leaked after 18 faculties, together with three authorities institutes, throughout the state broke the safety seal a day earlier than the scheduled examination.

“Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) has suspended the affiliation of 15 private schools across 10 districts for breaking the seal of Class 11 Mathematics question papers before the scheduled time, leading to a leak,” the minister mentioned.

He added, “The state government will also take action against three other schools for violating the rules in a similar manner.”

“FIRs are being lodged, and these schools are barred from admitting Class XI students for 2025–26,” he mentioned.

Police complaints can be lodged and these faculties have been barred from admitting Class 11 college students for the 2025-26 educational yr, Pegu mentioned.

According to the ASSEB order issued by Controller of Examinations (in-charge) Ranjan Kumar Das, all inspectors of colleges and principals of lead faculties had acquired again the sealed packets of Mathematics query paper following its cancellation.

“…from their reports it is seen that some of the institutions had opened the sealed packets of question paper on 20/03/2025, whereas the examination was scheduled to be held in the second session of 21/03/2025.

“…it’s presumed that leakage of query papers in the remainder of the examination can’t be dominated out, as all the query papers of remaining topics are within the custody of every establishment of Assam the place examination is being held,” it added.

Therefore, all the remaining subjects of HS First Year examination from March 24 to March 29 have been cancelled, Das said in the order.

Das told PTI that an FIR has been lodged at CID Headquarters in Guwahati, while 18 other cases will be filed at respective police stations against the educational institutions.

“Out of the 18 centres, we imagine that not all have leaked the papers. Probably just one or two centres leaked the papers and people went viral on social media. The culprits can be discovered after an in depth probe by the police,” he added.

Last week, the Class 9 English annual exam in Assam’s Barpeta district was cancelled after the question paper leaked on social media.
