Leader of Opposition within the Maharashtra legislative council, Ambadas Danve, on Tuesday (March 25, 2025) alleged that sure people are concerned in betting on IPL cricket matches and Mumbai police have been shielding them.
Speaking within the Upper House, the Shiv Sena (UBT) chief stated he would submit a pen drive containing particulars of a number of conversations and betting operations to the council chairman.
He claimed, “I have a pen drive that contains phone call details of an application called ‘Lotus 24’ used for betting on cricket matches. Mehul Jain, Kamlesh Jain, and Hiren Jain have connections with Pakistani cricket players. It also involves senior police officers of the Mumbai police. The betting activities are taking place under the protection of Mumbai police.” Raising issues about crime statistics, he claimed 7,82,960 incidents have been reported in 2024, in response to the State police division.
He alleged that the Maharashtra authorities had intentionally withheld crime experiences for 2022-23 and 2023-24.
He stated, “Last year, the state reported 7,982 rapes and 16,200 cases of molestation. This year, we are seeing 22 rapes and 45 molestation cases daily. Why has this behaviour become so rampant?”
The Sena (UBT) chief claimed that crime had elevated as a result of the state was not eager on prosecuting offenders.
He additionally highlighted overcrowding in prisons, claiming that the State’s prisons have been holding 43,000 prisoners after they might solely maintain 27,000.
Mr. Danve additionally identified that the State had recorded monetary frauds price Rs 51,000 crore in 2024 and sought to know what measures the federal government was taking.
