Delhi stray dogs issue: CJI refers matter to 3-judge bench of SC; hearing tomorrow
Dog lovers stage a protest in opposition to the Supreme Court’s order to ship all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelters inside 8 weeks, at Connaught Place in New Delhi on Tuesday.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court’s suo motu case on the stray canine situation, by which a two-judge bench on Monday, August 11, directed that stray dogs in Delhi-NCR be relocated to shelters, has been referred to a three-judge bench. The matter will now be heard tomorrow by a bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and NV Anjaria.

Earlier within the day, Chief Justice of India BR Gavai stated he would look at the continued situation relating to neighborhood dogs, after an advocate talked about the matter, saying totally different benches of the Supreme Court have issued conflicting instructions.The matter relating to stray dogs was talked about earlier than a bench headed by the CJI for pressing itemizing, to which the CJI stated, “I will look into this.”

Advocate Nanita Sharma stated two benches of the apex courtroom have handed totally different orders on the stray dogs situation.On August 11, a bench of Justices Pardiwala and R Mahadevan took a stern view of the stray canine menace and ordered the Delhi-NCR to begin eradicating stray dogs from all localities inside eight weeks and home them in devoted canine shelters to be arrange by civic authorities.
