Panaji, 23 April, 2025: Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has announced the cancellation of all events scheduled to mark his birthday on 24 April, 2025, in a solemn and sensitive response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The decision comes as a mark of respect for the victims and their families and reflects the state’s unwavering commitment to national solidarity during times of grief.

Condemning the attack in which at least 26 people—mostly tourists—lost their lives, he stated, “We offer our condolences to the families of the victims and pray for the early recovery of the injured. It is shameful that the victims were shot after asking them about their faith”.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed Goa’s solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the spirit of India lies in unity and resilience against forces that aim to divide. Furthering Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s staunch decisions on bringing justice to the terrorists, he stated, “We are confident that Modi ji will take strong and decisive steps to curb terrorism and ensure that the progress made in Jammu and Kashmir is safeguarded”.

Dr. Sawant confirmed after today’s cabinet meeting that he would not be accepting birthday greetings at his personal residence in Sankhalim or at the official residence in Panaji. He shared that only the programmes which include seva (service), such as a medical camp, would be held. He requested all the party workers and well-wishers to refrain from wishing him.
