On the eve of his staff’s IPL conflict versus Kolkata Knight Riders right here, Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming mentioned that the staff’s fielding has been “a little bit sloppy” and emphasised that the gamers have been working exhausting to enhance it. ​

Referring to the Super Kings’ 18-run defeat to Punjab Kings on Tuesday, he mentioned: “We had them five for, what, 100? And then, we had mishaps on the field, which I think let them off the hook. We saw a fine innings from a young player (Priyansh Arya’s 42-ball 103), who had the night of his life, but we had opportunities throughout.

“Fielding has been an issue throughout the season — the amount of catches dropped. So, we’re working hard on that.”

Knight Riders batter Venkatesh Iyer mentioned that the likes of Varun Chakaravarthy, Ajinkya Rahane, and Moeen Ali having data of the Chepauk floor will probably be a bonus for the staff.

“Irrespective of the conditions, I think Varun is a world-class spinner now. Everywhere he goes, people look up to him. But yes, his playing in his home ground is going to be of huge importance. It’s going to be a huge factor as well.

“Also, considering that Ajinkya and Moeen Ali played here for two years, I think we’ve got a good think tank as well with regards to how this pitch will play.”

He additionally highlighted mentor Dwayne Bravo’s expertise at Chepauk and mentioned that Bravo will pay attention to “how to bat and bowl on the ground and what tactics to use.”
