An Iranian Navy helicopter confronted a U.S. warship trying to strategy Iranian territorial waters in the Gulf of Oman on Wednesday (July 23, 2025), Iranian state TV reported.
The incident was the primary direct encounter reported between Iranian and U.S. forces because the 12-day warfare between Iran and Israel, throughout which U.S. B-52 bombers focused Iranian nuclear amenities.
The report mentioned Iranian forces dispatched the helicopter to confront a U.S. Navy destroyer recognized because the USS Fitzgerald that approached the waters at round 10 a.m. native time.
The report mentioned the helicopter flew instantly over the U.S. ship and issued a warning to keep up distance. In what the report described as a tense alternate, the U.S. warship reportedly responded by threatening to focus on the Iranian plane if it didn’t depart the world.
The Navy referred requests for remark to the US Central Command, which mentioned it might present a response later Wednesday or early Thursday (July 24, 2025).
The Iranian state TV report mentioned that in response to the threats from the U.S. vessel, Iranian air defence forces introduced that the helicopter was below the total safety of Iran’s built-in air defence system.
Eventually the USS Fitzgerald “retreated southward,” the report mentioned.
