Kiru hydropower corruption case: CBI files chargesheet against former J&K governor Satya Pal Malik

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday filed the chargesheet against former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik and 5 others in reference to the Kiru hydropower corruption case, PTI reported quoting officers. In 2024, the CBI had carried out searches at eight places throughout Delhi and Jammu as a part of a probe into alleged corruption involving the awarding of civil contracts value Rs 2,200 crore for the Kiru Hydro Electric Power Project.The investigation stems from a request made by the Jammu and Kashmir authorities in 2022, searching for a CBI inquiry into suspected irregularities within the awarding of two main contracts. These considerations had been initially raised by Satya Pal Malik, who served because the governor of J&Okay from August 23, 2018, to October 30, 2019. Malik had publicly alleged that he was provided a Rs 300 crore bribe to approve two files, certainly one of which associated to the Kiru venture.
