The makers of Panchayat Season 4 have launched the teaser of the Hindi village drama sequence. Directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, the sequence drops on Amazon Prime Video on July 02, 2025.
On Saturday (May 03, 2025), Mishra stated he’s open to the thought of a village cinematic universe that would come with his reveals in addition to different village-theme productions.
Speaking at a session in the course of the inaugural World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES), Mishra shared that when he first started engaged on the sequence, there was no intention of making a shared universe of village-based tales.
“This wasn’t intentional. But if it happens, then I wouldn’t mind at all. Just like there’s a Marvel Cinematic Universe, there could be a village cinematic universe too. Whether there will be crossovers or not – we’ll see that later.
Panchayat has been one of the most critically-acclaimed shows for streaming service Prime Video, which recently released another village-theme show, Dupahiya. The streamer is coming out with a third series in the genre with Gram Chikitsalay.
“But sure, it will be nice if such a universe emerges, with tales which are each inter-dependent and unbiased. That can be very nice,” the director said.
At the session, titled ‘Making of Panchayat Grassroot storytelling Amazon Prime’, Mishra was joined by the show’s writer Chandan Kumar as well as actors Jitendra Kumar, Raghubir Yadav and Sunita Rajwar.
Mishra said the reason behind the success of Panchayat is that the team ensured that the show’s world felt authentic.
“From the start, our intention was to remain true to the story and the world, the sort we’ve really seen in our personal villages. We stored many issues in thoughts whereas constructing that world, particularly the setting,” he said, adding that all the seasons of the show were filmed at real locations.
“Our mantra was: at any time when doubtful, don’t do the proper factor — do the actual factor. Across all departments, we took excessive care to make sure every thing remained as actual as attainable,” he said. Jitendra, who plays the lead role of Abhishek Tripathi in the series, said he wasn’t supposed to be a part of Panchayat.
“I wasn’t even anticipating to carry out in it. The preliminary idea was to inform the story set inside a panchayat workplace, one thing just like the US present The Office, specializing in just a few inside characters. But as soon as they did recce and deeper analysis, they realised it couldn’t keep confined to the workplace — they needed to step out into the world.
“When they needed a panchayat secretary, that’s when I got involved — I could be part of the show as Abhishek, the Panchayat Sachiv. That’s how my journey with the show began,” he stated.
When he first began capturing for the sequence, Jitendra stated he was fairly anxious as he did not know if issues had been touchdown proper.
“I wasn’t sure whether the subtler humour would connect the way loud jokes did. I was really worried… I was trying to find the right balance, because I hadn’t done a character like this before,” he stated, including that the staff at TVF watched the rushes and warranted him that he was heading in the right direction.”
