Red Bull can be in even worse form if it wasn’t for Verstappen’s combative brilliance in cajoling a problematic automotive to battle with faster rivals like McLaren and Mercedes.

His win in Japan within the first leg of this month’s triple header was solely down to arguably his biggest ever qualifying efficiency.
