Based on legends, to free Ram and Laxman from Ahiravan, Lord Hanuman took the type of Panchmukhi. The 5 faces included Lord Hanuman going through the east, Narasimha going through the south, Varaha going through the north, Garuda going through the west and Hayagriva going through the sky.
