Ashok Veeraraghavan, an Indian-origin pc engineer and professor, has been awarded the Edith and Peter O’Donnell Award in engineering, one of many highest tutorial honours within the US state of Texas. Veeraraghavan is an IIT-Madras alumnus.

The Texas Academy of Drugs, Engineering, Science and Know-how (TAMEST), which presents this award to rising researchers within the state, mentioned Veeraraghavan, an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Know-how (IIT), was chosen for his revolutionary imaging expertise that seeks to make the invisible seen, in response to a report by information company PTI.
The award is given yearly to star researchers in Texas engaged in pathbreaking work in medication, engineering, organic sciences, bodily sciences and expertise innovation.
In response to TAMEST, Veeraraghavan and his crew, with assist from researchers on the College of Maryland, developed a brand new expertise known as NeuWS, which is an acronym for “neural wavefront shaping”.
“Veeraraghavan and his crew at Rice work on creating imaging methods that use novel multi-dimensional picture sensors together with machine studying algorithms to undo the results of light-scattering and see-through scattering media akin to fog, smoke, rain and human tissue,” the Academy mentioned in an official assertion.
His profile on Rice College’s web site states that he’s at the moment a professor on the Electrical and Laptop Engineering Division.
He obtained his BTech in electrical engineering from IIT Madras in 2002, and his grasp’s and PhD from the Division of Electrical and Laptop Engineering on the College of Maryland, School Park in 2004 and 2008, respectively.
