A strong earthquake of magnitude 8 hit Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on Wednesday, following which, a tsunami alert was issued in the Pacific.The US Geological Survey reported an earthquake at a depth of 19.3 km, however there was no rapid replace on its influence in Russia’s Kamchatka area. University of Tokyo seismologist Shinichi Sakai informed NHK that even distant quakes can set off tsunamis in Japan if the epicenter is shallow
