LONDON: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer mentioned Sunday he doesn’t see the US as an unreliable ally however Europe should proceed to supply funding for Ukraine to place it in a stronger place if peace is negotiated.
Wrapping up a safety summit in London with different European and world leaders, Starmer mentioned that no one wished to see the breakdown in talks that occurred Friday on the White House however that the US stays an essential ally.
“The US has been a reliable ally to the UK for many, many decades and continues to be,” Starmer mentioned. “There are no two countries as closely aligned as our two countries.”
Starmer mentioned the plan he’s engaged on for peace in Ukraine is meant to obtain US backing. The UK will use 1.6 billion kilos (USD 2 billion) in export financing to provide 5,000 air defence missiles for Ukraine, he mentioned.
And he warned that Europe needed to do the heavy lifting in defending itself.
The assembly comes two days after US assist for Ukraine appeared in larger jeopardy after President Donald Trump lashed out at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and mentioned he wasn’t grateful sufficient for US assist.
